Reno Rodeo, Aces, free pool day highlight events-packed week in Northern Nevada (2024)

Summer is officially underway in northwestern Nevada with a week's worth of sunny skies and temperatures regularly hitting the mid-90s. The week is full of the region's usual summer highlights, including the Reno Rodeo, Reno Aces, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival and Food Truck Friday — as well as a free pool day at Traner Pool this Friday.

Northwestern Nevada events, June 24-30

Reno Rodeo, June 24-29:The "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West" is back for its 105th edition.Tickets are in high demand, especially for the Wrangler Championship Finals on Saturday. For tickets and details, call 775-329-3877 ext. 132 or visitrenorodeo.com.

Reno Aces vs. Oklahoma City Dodgers, June 25-30:The top minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers makes its only visit to Reno this season. Menopause: The Musical, June 25-30:It's the final week in Reno for this traveling show that pokes musical fun at women and aging with some funny and sometimes poignant tunes. Shows take place at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, as well as at 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Performances are at the Showroom, Eldorado Hotel Casino, 345 N. Virginia St., Reno. Soft Machine, June 25: Sometimes you see an entry on a club calendar that really turns your head, and that was definitely the case here. Led by its mid-‘70s guitarist John Etheridge, this version of the UK band Soft Machine carries on the jazz-meets-psychedelic sound of the original band, who earned many critical plaudits for their distinctive sound. Ragecon, June 28-30: Let the games begin! It's three days of tabletop gaming with board games, card games, dice games, role-playing games and more. The fun runs from 10 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. Daily badges range from $40 to $55; three-day badges are $90. Food Truck Friday, June 28:Reno summer weekends start at Food Truck Friday, with a50-vendor cuisine lineupincluding American, Mexican, Asian fusion, Southern, Mediterranean, Brazilian and so many more. Patsy Cline, June 28-30: A summer of performances at Sand Harbor begins with this tribute to a country superstar and her long friendship with a fan, told through a lineup of Patsy Cline's greatest hits. Northwestern Nevada weather, June 24-30

All week long: Sunny, with highs in the low to mid-90s in the valleys and in the mid-70s to mid-80s at higher elevations. Clear overnight, with lows near 60 in the valleys and in the mid-40s to mid-50s at higher elevations.

Northwestern Nevada roads, June 24-30

U.S. 395, Gardnerville: The Nevada Department of Transportation is resurfacing U.S. 395 through downtown Gardnerville between Waterloo Lane and First Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in either direction; drivers should expect moderate delays. Work is expected to continue through September.

I-580, south Reno: Southbound I-580 will see lane reductions near the Summit Mall while crews flatten bridge transitions over South Virginia Street. Overnight lane reductions will take place between Mt. Rose Highway and South Meadows Parkway between 6 p.m. and 7 a.m., with periodic overnight ramp closures at Mt. Rose Highway, South Meadows Parkway and Damonte Ranch Parkway, through early summer.

Steamboat Parkway, south Reno: Crews will expand the stretch of Steamboat Parkway from four lanes to six between Marketplace Drive and Veterans Parkway through November.

U.S. 395, North Valleys: Northbound traffic will continue be reduced to two lanes on U.S. 395 through mid-2025 due to NDOT's work to widen U.S. 395 between North McCarran Boulevard and Golden Valley Road. The on-ramp at Panther Valley north of Reno will be closed through late 2024.

U.S. 395 north of Topaz Lake: Single-lane closures will take place in one-mile sections from the state line to Ray May Way between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekdays through August as NDOT repaves the roadway. Reduced speed limits will be in place. Drivers should expect travel delays of up to 30 minutes.
