UNDETERRED DRIVE FOR SUCCESSIn 1983, Cyndi Lauper was on the cusp of a breakthrough that would forever change her career and the landscape of pop music. Captured in a photograph from that year, Lauper’s vibrant hair and eclectic style epitomize an era defined by bold visual statements as much as by musical creativity. At 29, she was on the verge of superstardom, a path that would be cemented with the release of her debut album, She’s So Unusual, in October of that year.Born on June 22, 1953, in Brooklyn, New York, Cyndi Lauper's journey into music began in her teenage years, but it wasn’t until the early 1980s that she started to make significant strides in the industry. Before launching her solo career, Lauper was a member of the band Blue Angel, which released an album in 1980. Despite critical praise, the album failed commercially, leading to the band’s breakup and Lauper’s financial struggles. Undeterred, she signed with Portrait Records in 1983, setting the stage for her solo success. The release of She’s So Unusual on October 14, 1983, marked a pivotal moment in pop music history. The album, an eclectic mix of pop, rock, reggae, and new wave, highlighted Lauper's unique voice and playful persona. She’s So Unusual stood out for its unapologetic celebration of individuality, with Lauper’s colorful and slightly rebellious image reflected in every track. Hits like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time" turned the album into a celebration of fun, freedom, and self-expression."Girls Just Want to Have Fun" quickly became a cultural phenomenon.

I saw her in Houston on her tour back then. A wonderful show that was so enjoyable. I'm going to try to see the November show here at Toyota Center.

Thank you for this Gilda. Yes, I remember listening to Cyndi. Her music still gets an airing occasionally on radio here in Australia. 😀 🎙 🎶

Jerry Seinfeld said that portraying Jerry and Elaine's relationship throughout the show was way above any acting capabilities he possessed. However, it all seemed very easy because he just really really liked Julia.

REMEMBER WHEN THEY KILLED OFF SUSAN?Susan Ross, George Costanza's fiancée, was written off because the cast found it very difficult to work with Heidi Swedberg. According to Jason Alexander, while they liked Swedberg’s personally, Alexander was having difficulty playing his scenes with her (as did Julia Louis-Dreyfus when the two shared scenes in The Pool Guy (1995)). Louis-Dreyfus joked about writing her off, which gave Larry David the idea to write off her character.
